THE UP AND COMING VIRTUAL AIRLINE
Welcome to Piedmont Virtual Airlines Historical Group, or PVA-HG — the Up and Coming Virtual Airline!
We’re a virtual airline — an organization of aviation enthusiasts who utilize flight simulators to emulate the operations of an actual airline — that represents the historical Piedmont Airlines which operated from 1948 to 1989. In addition, we include curated selections, or in some cases entire route networks, from other airlines throughout the history of the airline industry.
Our goal is to inspire interest in aviation history, to preserve some small pieces of memories about these carriers however we can, and to build an active, welcoming, and inclusive community of enthusiasts who share a passion for aviation as a whole.
Sure, there are other virtual airlines that are a conglomerate of old, defunct airlines. We won’t pretend we’re the first to come up with the idea. If you’ve been in the hobby long enough there’s no doubt you’re familiar with some of them, maybe you’re even a member. If so, then you’ll know those VAs usually have old websites with outdated systems with kludgy functionality. They’re usually not particularly curated — it’s a catch all of whatever aircraft and airlines caught the eye of the VA’s owners.
PVA Historical Group is proudly built in partnership with vAMSYS - the Virtual Airline Management System. This gives us a platform to manage the VA which is sleek, modern, and under constant development and continuous improvement by professionals. It includes a bespoke ACARS client called Pegasus which tracks many elements of your flight’s progress and sends that information back when you end your flight and submit so that your PIREP can be reviewed, scored, and logged.
In addition, we put thought and care into what other airlines we include. The foundation of our route network is Piedmont’s mainline operations as they existed in September 1988. We then layer on top of that selections or whole route networks of other airlines to highlight various regions, historical or community events, and particular aircraft, and we rotate those schedules in and out regularly to keep things fresh for members.
There’s a lot to like about PVA.
We’ve given you a brief overview of what we’re all about, but there’s more here for you to dig into. Check out our About Us page to find out more about who we are and what we want PVA to be like. Or dive into our Histories page to learn more about all the airlines whose histories we’re currently celebrating.
Maybe you’ve already seen enough to know you want to get involved? All that’s left for you to do is to…
